High Road speedster Ina Yoko Teutenberg outpowered the field on Saturday for a second stage victory in the Tour de l’Aude – and the women’s team’s 27th win of the season. Teutenberg was the fastest in a group of some 30 riders that broke away on the hilly stage eight, starting and finishing in the town of Bram.
“I was a bit lucky because I was really tired after getting into the break and it was windy, too.” Teutenberg said afterwards. “Another rider went for it on the other side of the road at the finish and I thought it would be close but I finally won by about a bike length.”
“Judith [Arndt] and Linda [Villumsen] were with me in the break and they did a great job of pulling back the moves. The attacks kept going but Judith kept on pulling them back.”
“I was by myself in the finale, but that was only logical after all the work my team-mates had had to do. It was up to me to do the rest. I just positioned myself well and sat on wheels through to the finish. After everything they had done for me, the least I could do was try as hard as possible to go for the win.”
“Judith and Linda made sure the break was kept under control for Ina.” added sports director Ronny Lauke. “Nobody could escape and that set things up perfectly for Ina. It was the perfect team effort.”
“With three riders in the break we were in a great situation, and with a long, flat run-in and only a slight curve with 150 metres to go, it was the ideal sort of finish for a good sprint. And Ina certainly did one!”
The final stage of Tour de l\’Aude takes place tomorrow in Limoux.
